Five Tips to Strengthen Your Back

Author: sleepeasy
June 3, 2009

person-with-back-ache-cartoon.jpgIn the last few weeks we have included some suggestions to help keep your back in it’s best condition and this week we have our final five to continue to aid in relieving annoying back-pain.

  1. Magnesium is known to help maintain normal muscle and nerve function so it may be worth your time to visit your family doctor to determine if you are magnesium deficient.
  2. It may be time to consider purchasing a new mattress!  The firmness of your mattress can affect your lower back.  A medium firm mattress is believed to be the best according to a study done in Spain.  You may want to explore the possibility of a memory foam mattress.  You can begin your research with testing a memory foam pillow and once you discover it’s benefit you may want more of a good thing!
  3. A regular massage may be just what the doctor ordered!  Massages can reduce stress and loosen up any tight muscles.
  4. The power of a tennis ball may surprise you!  If you place it under the part of your back that is hurting, while laying flat or standing against a wall, it will relieve the tightness of the muscle that is hurting as the pressure is placed on it.
  5. There are other devices that can be purchased which aid in strengthening and stretching lower back muscles, such as the inverter table.  If you are considering any product, ensure it’s safety for your body.

More Tips on Back Pain Solutions

Author: sleepeasy
May 27, 2009

notepad-and-pencil.jpgWe have included more ways to help you, we hope,  live pain-free with your back!

  1. Avoid lifting heavy objects where possible.  If lifting is required, ensure proper body positioning, by bending slightly at the knees and lifting with your legs, not your back.  Keep your back as straight as possible with the object close to your body.  Don’t be afraid to ask someone for help in lifting heavier objects!
  2. If a back injury has occurred, place an ice pack on the area to reduce swelling.  Once the swelling has decreased heat can be applied.
  3. An active lifestyle is good as circulation to your muscles is created when participating in aerobic exercise.  Increased circulation can reduce the tightness surrounding our muscles.  One word of caution, if back pain has resulted from an injury, please check with your doctor before doing any strenuous exercise.
  4. Stretching all areas of your body should be part of every day.  Our body acts as one and if one area is hurting, another part may will compensate for it. If you stretch after exercising,  your muscles will be warm and more flexible.  Do not stretch beyond what your body should so as not to cause further back injury.
  5. Consider including back strengthening exercises into your exercise program.  You may want to consult a physical therapist to develop a plan best suited to your needs.

These five tips can help you during the daytime hours and a memory foam pillow can help you during the nighttime as you sleep to ensure your spine is in the best aligned position.

Stay tuned for our last five tips on strengthening your back next time.

sore-neck-back-shoulders.jpgDo you want a simple, yet effective way to end health problems?

Is your neck sore in the morning?  How about your back or shoulders?  Do you know that a change in pillows may be all that is required!  By doing that one simple thing you could also eliminate fatigue.

A pillow that leaves your neck sagging is going to cause poor alignment of your spine.  A memory contour pillow can work whether you sleep on your side, back or stomach.

The same holds true for your shoulders and back.  Keeping your spine correctly aligned allows for a natural positioning of your head in correlation to your spine.  If everything is aligned, you won’t have any body parts upset at you in the morning!

Waking up tired can be caused by not being comfortable during your sleep.  Is your head sinking to just the right comfort area or are you moving that pillow around all night long to find that perfect spot?

To find your perfect night’s rest, start looking at a memory contour pillow.  A pillow that keeps you perfectly aligned all night long!

A Night Without Snores

If you’ve ever had to share a room with a loud snorer, you know how absolutely disruptive that snoring can be. If you’re a light sleeper anyway, that snoring can actually keep you awake or repeatedly rouse you throughout the night. Various solutions are possible to alleviate the ill effects of sharing a room with a loud snorer. The most obvious possibility is wearing ear plugs. But many people don’t find these comfortable to wear throughout the night.

If you’re one of these people, and you can’t stand the prospect of ear plugs, maybe all you need are Memory Foam pillows. There are certain foam pillows that actually adjust the way your body and head are aligned when you sleep, which makes it less likely that you’ll snore. Whether you’re the offender, or you’re purchasing for a loud roommate, it’s a safe, non-surgical way to deal with the issue of snoring.

How To Ensure Sleep When The Lights Go Out!

May 1, 2009

worried-person.jpgWe do not have to look or go far, to be faced with the fact that our nation is in financial anarchy.  From the radio, newspaper, talk-shows, news hour or neighbours - we can become panicked and stressed.  People are losing their jobs, banks are closing, stocks have plummeted affecting retirement plans…need I go on?  Our view of life is dismal not only in the present but also as we look to the future.

What our minds are dwelling on begins to affect how we look after ourselves.  We eat poorly or perhaps not at all, we overindulge in drink and drug, we can’t sleep, we worry and this begins to result in physical and mental issues.  How can we break this cycle?

You may not be able to control the situation but you can control you!  Take a deep breathe and consider making these next suggestions part of your regualr day.

  • Drink lots of water.
  • Eat a well-balanced diet.
  • Relax.  Listen to music instead of the news!
  • Surround yourself with positive people.
  • Let a memory foam pillow give you that peaceful night’s rest to help rejuvenate your body and allow you to wake up with a smile on your face, ready to take on the world.

That Street Light May Be The Cause of Your Sleeping Problems!

Author: sleepeasy
April 27, 2009

streetlight.jpgWe have all become more aware of the importance of making every attempt to do our part to reduce, reuse, and recycle.  One area of saving our earth has concentrated on light energy.  We’ve begun to change over our light bulbs to energy efficient ones and try to turn off all lights when we are leaving a room.  We’re also learning that while we save the earth, we may also solve some sleeping problems!

Light is basically energy, and if, while we are in a deep sleep, we are exposed to it abruptly, it can immediately affect our heart rates, breathing and serotonin levels.  Consider that even long-term  light sources while we sleep can have severe damage on our health and mental outlook.  There may be cause to consider the light sources around us at night.  Do I have the glow of a streetlight through my bedroom window?  Is there a nightlight left on throughout the evening?  Is the moonlight another threat?  Do my neighbours have a porch or garage light near my bedroom?  These subtle light sources could be affecting your sleep pattern.

When you invest in a memory foam pillow to give you the perfect night’s rest, don’t let an intruding source of light stop the sweet dreams from happening!

sleeping-child.jpgHow come when we were kids we never wanted to go to bed?  Remember our parents telling us how important a good night’s rest was?  Of course, as soon as they turned the lights off, we were playing games under the blankets or pulling out our favourite book to read with a flashlight!

A good night’s rest is a basic need and it is crucial to a healthy lifestyle.  Having the right pillow is part of the key to a good night’s rest.  A memory foam pillow provides the support and comfort, enabling good, sound, solid sleep.

If only we would have listened to our parents and slept when we were young because now the responsibilities in life cut into our sleep time more and more!  Try to make a honest effort to grab those needed 8 hours of sleep.  Grab your memory foam pillow, close your eyes and do yourself a favour:  sleep well.

It’s Part of the Key to a Good Night’s Rest: The Pillow

April 16, 2009

feather.jpgI am sure we have all heard the stories about our parents, or perhaps grandparents, making their own feather-filled pillows or down quilts!  Not only have we heard the stories but perhaps we have seen the evidence of what they have made because it is still in their homes!  While that generation had to work for everything they had and were very happy to be warm and snugly at night,  as time as progressed, we have learned the importance of buying suitable products for how we sleep.  With each new generation there are more testings and discoveries made which help to assist in a good night’s rest which ultimately is crucial to a healthy lifestyle.

Perhaps, you are like I once was, and shopped for the cheapest pillow you could find, after all it was just to be used to sleep on, no big deal, right?  Wrong!  Research has shown the importance of having our bodies aligned properly while we sleep and pillows contribute to that.  I take no pride in finding the cheapest deal on pillows anymore.  Your body will say thank you for many years to come if you take the time to choose a product that is right for you and your body.

While there are many choices of materials in pillows, why not look into a memory foam pillow?

Why Buy A Memory Foam Pillow?

Author: sleepeasy
March 18, 2009

memory-foam-pillow.jpgAre you tired of punching and folding and shifting your pillow around so that you can have just the right shape to rest your weary head on?  With a memory foam pillow you won’t have any clumping, you will have contoured support, a temperature sensitive pillow which is easy to care for!

A memory foam pillow derives it’s name from the fact that this pillow, after it has been pressed anywhere to cause it to change its shape, will “remember” its original flat shape and return to it.

The contoured support allows for even distribution of the weight of your head and neck which in turn alleviates pressure points and aligns your head and neck.

Whether you sleep on your back, side or stomach , the memory foam pillow can accommodate all positions!

Another plus is the hypoallergenic and anti-microbial qualities which can make this pillow attractive for people who suffer from allergies.

We think we’ve found the perfect pillow for you - the memory foam pillow!

The Perfect Pillow!

Author: Sleepologist
March 17, 2009
foampillowsleep-perfectfoampillows.jpg

There’s nothing better than slipping into a delightful slumber with the perfect pillow resting beneath your neck.  I tried for years to find that perfect pillow that everyone should be so lucky to encounter in their lifetime.  Until I purchased a foam pillow I found online, I never knew comfort.  With this pillow under my neck, the first night it was like I redefined comfort.  I only slept for about six hours that first night (less than my usual), but when I woke up it felt like it was Saturday morning and I had slept in.  I was refreshed, had more energy, and was overall in a better mood; it’s an amazing feeling!

Now I can’t sleep without my foam pillow, I even take it to the office with me sometimes if I’m going to have a long night and need a nap in between.  Though it’s a little large to fit in a suitcase, if I travel without it, I just feel like I’m missing out on a good nights sleep the whole time!
