How Much Sleep Are You Losing Each Night?

If snoring were just caused by poor sleep habits, the solution would be easier. But in most cases it is more complicated. We can take note of tips that will help stop snoring.  Losing weight will reduce fatty tissues in the back of the throat that cause the vibrating sound.  Elevating the head will make breathing easier.  Certain foods, alcohol and medication should be avoided before going to bed.  Some foods and alcohol tend to relax muscles.  Sleeping pills will help you sleep but again, it will relax muscles and increase the chance of snoring.

Snoring is not only the problem of the snorer but of the spouse as well.  Studies show that a person who sleeps with a snorer loses up to 60 minutes of sleep each night. Fortunately, there are a lot of products and devices in the market that claims to stop snoring.  One of them are specialty pillows that have been proven to improve better sleeping habits, while lessening the habits of snoring.

You May Have Inherited Snoring

You May Have Inherited Snoring

We often inherit good or bad attributes from our parents and grandparents.  Some we welcome others we don’t.  Snoring is one of things we could inherit. There are many causes of snoring but specialists have generally grouped them into two major reasons.  Snoring which is the narrowing of the airway, may be caused by either poor sleep posture or abnormalities of the soft tissue in the throat.  A narrow airway gets in the way of smooth breathing and creates the sound of snoring.

To understand the case of an individual’s snoring is not a simple matter. Doctors make extensive efforts to determine a lot of factors including his position while sleeping, his general health condition, and gender. The sleeping position of a person says a lot about the cause of snoring and a person on the obese side will most likely experience the disorder. Males are believed to be more prone to snoring because they have narrower air passages than women.

Snore relief

Snoring can be dangerous because it is often associated with sleep apnea. Sleep apnea means the cessation of breathing, usually for a few seconds. Sleep apnea alerts the brain and signals the person to wake up and breathe. This is the reason why snorers, who are often thought to be deep sleepers, wake up fatigued and sleepy.

They end up not performing at their finest during the day. Sometimes they even fall asleep quickly, as if not having been able to sleep at all the previous night. There are various treatments that guarantee snore relief. One is by wearing a CPAP mask. A cheaper but equally effective way would be to try an ergonomically-designed pillow that ensures a good night’s sleep by improving sleep posture and preventing snoring.

anti allergen pillow

Anti-allergen pillows

The allergy medication people take to keep their noses from running, and their eyes from itching may be responsible for keeping them up at night. Many types of allergy medication containing loratadine (an antihistamine) can cause sleepiness during the day, which can result in sufferers feeling less tired at night. On the flip side of the coin, many decongestants can have the affect of insomnia.

Getting a restful night of sleep is tough in middle of allergy season. But there’s an alternative—suffers can try using an anti-allergen pillow. Many afflicted with allergies show a bad reaction to down pillows, and can’t tolerate the dust mites most pillows contain.

Anti-allergen pillows prevent users from inhaling allergens where their face touches the pillow, and they are also a worthy alternative to medication.

Snoring Linked to Stroke Risk?

Author: sleepeasy
September 16, 2008

snoring.jpgInformation has been gathered suggesting that heavy snoring increase plaque build-up in the carotid arteries in the neck, which could be a risk factor for a stroke.

Sleep tests were performed in Australia concentrating on three categories of snoring.  Mild, moderate and heavy snoring.  The heavy snoring division did pose a concern for greater risk for strokes.

It’s not too late to find a way to eliminate that risk - perhaps it’s just a change in your pillow!

snore pillow

If you have problems snoring in bed, then we should talk.  I have been waiting for the day when I would start snoring just like my mother and father.  When I was a kid, I hated that they snored so loud, and now I guess it’s my turn.

But unlike them, I am going to take the added steps to stop snoring in its tracks.  With a snore pillow, specially designed to stop your snoring, you can beat the genetic predisposition to snoring and continue on with your life.

Snoring Relief

August 13, 2008

We all know someone, perhaps ourselves, who snore!  We don’t need to spend lots of money to find cures for snoring.  Take a look at these home remedies:

  • Exercise - the body becomes toned as well as the breathing muscles thus preventing congestion in the upper respiratory tract.  To strengthen lung capacity and improve cardiovascular health, become involved in aerobic exercise.  Careful, not to do this just before bed, as the body will be too stimulated to sleep!
  • Weight Loss - Losing a few pounds can bring considerable improvement in snoring as excessive weight around the chest and neck can cause pressure on the muscles that ensure normal breathing.
  • Avoid Sedatives, Alcohol and Smoking - Sedatives depress the central nervous system and relax the muscles and throat tissues excessively.  Smoking increase the congestion in the nose and throat causing swelling in the upper air passage of your throat.  It also reduces the oxygen to the lungs.  Alcohol is to be avoided four hours prior to bedtime.
  • Sleep Posture - Find a pillow that is designed to help reduce airway obstruction and improve sleep posture to provide snoring relief.

A healthy approach towards your life can ease your snoring problems with relative ease.

Home Remedies to Stop Snoring

Do you think home remedies are the solution to sleeping better without snoring?

Let’s take a look at some of those suggestions:

  • A tennis ball?  Sewing a tennis ball into the back of the pajamas of the person who snores, so as to prevent them from laying on their back?  What if the person does not wear pajamas at bedtime?  We have a problem!
  • Bricks under your bedposts?  The idea is to elevate the head of your bed.  The nasal airways will be prevented from becoming congested.  How will the bed-frame handle that one?
  • Remove your pillow.  Sleep with no pillow so there is no chance of a kink developing in your neck.  There goes your comfort at night!

While some of these may sound humorous to try - why not purchase a Snore-No-More Pillow which will allow you to sleep on your back (not causing your body to “learn” a new way to sleep), elevate your head to clear the nasal passages (not ruining the bed-frame using bricks!) and enjoy the luxurious comfort of a pillow at night that does prevent kinks developing.

The majority of us are affected by snoring -either because we do it ourselves or lay in bed at night listening to the beautiful strains of someone else snoring!  Let’s look at various options to reduce, prevent or possibly stop snoring all together

  •  Surgery - 50% or less success rate and quite expensive.
  • Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Appliance -First choice by physicians to treat sleep apnea but eh appliance is inconvenient and uncomfortable and only effective is it is used continually.
  • Adjustable Bed - you sleep peacefully and the price is affordable
  • Custom Dental Appliances - Durable, adaptable and comfortable but expensive
  • Nasal Valve Dilators - Only help with the least common type of snoring, clogged nasal passages.  May fall off during sleep and uncomfortable.
  • Stop Snoring Sprays - Inexpensive but only temporary relief.  May be addictive and damage mucuous membranes.
  • Stop Snoring Pillows - Designed by a doctor to help improve sleeping posture.  Moderate price range.
